Vava'u, Tonga

Hello, my name is Lionel and I’ll be recounting my experience in Tonga when I was young.

In the early 2000s my family and I travelled overseas to Tonga, for the purpose of scuba diving and whale watching. We travelled during the peak season for humpback whales to give birth. This occurred on the island of Vava’u just north of Tonga.

This was not ordinary whale watching though; it was up close and personal. At times we were within touching distance of little calves exploring the waters, the mothers watching closely. It was definitely one of the most memorable moments of my life.
